Fable #591

previous | next

A Lion and an Ass agreed to go hunting together. They had no sooner started out again than a loud shout went up from another company of people on the road. Becoming thirsty on the way, he filled his horn at a spring, and was about to drink. Was he as big as this? Go along with you, you stupid Ass, he cried. The Rabbit was quite angry for a Rabbit, and requested the Weasel to move out. But his plans were very much changed when he met a Lion, who, without making any excuses, took the Lamb away from him. But the little Frogs all declared that the monster was much, much bigger and the old Frog kept puffing herself out more and more until, all at once, she burst.

Do not trust alone to outward appearances.
