Fable #602

An old Toad once informed all his neighbors that he was a learned doctor. It was their feast, they thought. How lucky I am! he said. I have found a purse. But the Grasshopper answered saucily that he had as much right to his place in the sun as the Owl had to her place in the old oak. He could get it neither up nor down, and of course he could not eat a thing. The butter I make I will take to market, and with the money I get for it I will buy a lot of eggs for hatching. The command struck terror among the beasts. But when the tide of battle turned, they immediately sided with the Beasts. Of course, they were all hungry, and helped themselves freely to the Stag's food; and as you would expect, the Stag soon starved to death.

Do not tell others how to act unless you can set a good example.
