Fable #520

previous | next

One day as the Lion walked proudly down a forest aisle, and the animals respectfully made way for him, an Ass brayed a scornful remark as he passed. As she thought of how she would settle that matter, she tossed her head scornfully, and down fell the pail of milk to the ground. But the Fox was already on his way to the woods. The Lion now recovered his good humor entirely. Now there were several Woodmen in the village who believed that they could easily win the same good fortune. The greedy Monkey followed the Fox to the trap. The honey belongs to the Bees.

It is cowardly to attack the defenseless, though he be an enemy.
