Fable #202

A pair of Oxen were drawing a heavily loaded wagon along a miry country road. Now the black Jackdaw was not a very handsome bird, nor very refined in manner. The poor Oxen, pulling with all their might to draw the wagon through the deep mud, had their ears filled with the loud complaining of the Wheels. said a Mother Crab to her son. They hardly dared blink for fear of losing him out of their sight a single instant. There none would dare harm them. Sir, said the Dog, with a grin, I shall be delighted to have you eat me. No small fry for me, he said. And so they died, giving their lives for the sake of a taste of sweetness.

The useful is of much more importance and value, than the ornamental.
