Fable #935

previous | next

One day a shepherd discovered a fat Pig in the meadow where his Sheep were pastured. The grapes seemed ready to burst with juice, and the Fox's mouth watered as he gazed longingly at them. 'Down with all Cats,' is my motto! Then he heard the Mother's voice say: Hush, child, hush! What news?, asked the Cock very calmly. But he had a queer, fluttery feeling inside him. The Bees were just as sure that the treasure was theirs. Of course, they were all hungry, and helped themselves freely to the Stag's food; and as you would expect, the Stag soon starved to death.

A change of habits will not alter nature.
