Fable #926

previous | next

The Swallow and the Crow had an argument one day about their plumage. Again and again the Gnat stung the Lion, who now was roaring terribly. Why do you do that? he asked. How nice it will be when they are all hatched and the yard is full of fine young chicks. The Sheep were easily fooled. They recognized the song the Wolf sings before a feast, and in a moment they were racing back to the pasture. I made him promise not to hurt us, said the Fox. The Frogs hid themselves among the reeds and grasses, thinking the new king to be some fearful giant. They then went to bed in a cozy nest in the hedgerow and slept in quiet and comfort until morning. It would have been quite a different scene had a Lion made it!

Do not try to take the credit to yourself that is due to others.
