Fable #700

previous | next

A Stag, drinking from a crystal spring, saw himself mirrored in the clear water. Rolling himself in flour until he was covered completely, he lay down in the flour bin, with one eye open for the Mice. All fell to lapping up the water as fast as they could. They made several attempts to steal it from him. A passerby heard his cries and asked what had happened. So one day he left his stable and clattered eagerly into the house. And as the water weeds he ate did not agree with him, he got thinner and thinner, and at last he died.

Whatever you do, do with all your might.
