Fable #585

previous | next

The Swallow and the Crow had an argument one day about their plumage. But the Grasshopper answered saucily that he had as much right to his place in the sun as the Owl had to her place in the old oak. He could get it neither up nor down, and of course he could not eat a thing. The butter I make I will take to market, and with the money I get for it I will buy a lot of eggs for hatching. The command struck terror among the beasts. But when the tide of battle turned, they immediately sided with the Beasts. The two soon came to blows, and while they were fighting, the Ass took to its heels.

Common sense is always worth more than cunning.
