Fable #558

previous | next

A Lark made her nest in a field of young wheat. So now, though he had not seen anything that even looked like a Wolf, he ran toward the village shouting at the top of his voice, Wolf! But the Fisherman quickly put the fish into his basket. Many died, and those who lived were so ill, that they cared for neither food nor drink, and dragged themselves about listlessly. What are you afraid of? asked a young Frog. They look more able to carry the poor creature, than he to carry them. Not one escaped the teeth of the hungry Weasels.

Those who have plenty want more and so lose all they have.
