Fable #489

previous | next

A hungry Wolf spied a Goat browsing at the top of a steep cliff where he could not possibly get at her. An old Frog living in the marsh, trembled as he watched the fierce battle. The Eagle could not reach the Serpent, neither with beak nor claws. The Fisherman was about to put it in his basket when the little Fish said: Please spare me, Mr. Fisherman! But I am not a Mouse! cried the Bat. But they soon began to see that none of them ever got hurt. If you drive them away, another greedy swarm will come and take the little blood I have left.

If you try to please all, you please none.
