Fable #440

previous | next

A Butterfly once fell in love with a beautiful Rose. If I should bring you a drink, it would only serve to wash me down your throat. One day he even went so far as to leave his flock in the Wolf's care while he went on an errand. The Goat thought the Fox had gone down to drink, and so he asked if the water was good. Why, of course, replied the Kite. This they did very easily. It would take so little to break me, he said, You know how fragile I am. In an instant the Cat was up a tree, hiding among the leaves. Some days later the Wolf came back for the promised feast. Just then the Father came within sight of the home, and the Wolf was barely able to save himself from the Dogs by a clever bit of running.

The flatterer seeks some benefit at your expense.
