Fable #419

previous | next

A Porcupine was looking for a good home. Your majesty, said the Fox, you are too good. To tell the truth, I even ate up a shepherd now and then. Surprised but delighted at the prospect of so delicious a meal, the Wolf settled down under an open window, expecting every moment to have the child handed out to him. It was late in the day and the Woodman was tired. Seeing the body of the Mouse floating on the water, the Hawk swooped down, seized the Mouse and carried it off, with the Frog dangling from its leg. No need to search any farther, thought sly Master Fox. But keep quiet or you will be sorry. He would have made you feel how much sharper his claws are than your teeth.

Do not listen to the advice of him who seeks to lower you to his own level.
