Fable #375

previous | next

A Wolf prowling near a village one evening met a Dog. And so, when he fluttered near and told how he loved her, she blushed rosily and said yes. I didn't have time to store up any food, whined the Grasshopper; I was so busy making music that before I knew it the summer was gone. When they were all gathered together, the Fox Without a Tail got up and made a long speech about those Foxes who had come to harm because of their tails. For lunch the Country Mouse served wheat stalks, roots, and acorns, with a dash of cold water for drink. The Sheep in the pasture were much astonished and amused at the Pig's behavior, and followed the Shepherd and his charge to the pasture gate. The Wheels of the wagon were of a different sort. Just then the Father came within sight of the home, and the Wolf was barely able to save himself from the Dogs by a clever bit of running.

Behavior that is regarded as agreeable in one is very rude and impertinent in another.
