Fable #353

previous | next

A Wolf, lurking near the Shepherd's hut, saw the Shepherd and his family feasting on a roasted lamb. Do you think you can move the wagon by simply looking at it and whining about it? A great many persons in Rhodes had seen him do it and would prove that what he told was true. When the wind blew, the great Oak stood proudly upright with its hundred arms uplifted to the sky. The Wolf saw the wisdom of the advice, for he wanted to enjoy his meal without any danger of choking. The Dogs in the neighborhood noticed him carrying the basket and soon discovered what was in it. And off he walked very, very scornfully.
