There was once a Cat who was so watchful, that a Mouse hardly dared show the tip of his whiskers for fear of being eaten alive. Soon he found life in the pasture very dull. It was enough to hang anyone for, much more an Ass. But at last he stopped to argue. Before he composed himself to rest, he flapped his wings three times and crowed loudly. The poor Woodman was very glad that his axe had been found and could not thank the kind god enough. The Countryman now went on toward home. The other, unable to fight the savage beast alone, threw himself on the ground and lay still, as if he were dead. Just then the Father came within sight of the home, and the Wolf was barely able to save himself from the Dogs by a clever bit of running.
Deeds count, not boasting words.
