Fable #283

A Traveler had hired an Ass to carry him to a distant part of the country. Fancy me running away from a puny Lion! All those who were so unfortunate as to have horns, began to pack up and move out. No compromise was possible, and so they went at it tooth and claw. All regarded him with envy. Even the most beautiful pheasant could see that his beauty was surpassed. Up he trotted to the foot of the tree in which the Crow was sitting, and looking up admiringly, he cried, Good-morning, beautiful creature! It happened that one of the Goats had been left behind, and the Bull had no sooner got inside than this Goat lowered his head and made a rush at him, butting him with his horns. The Ass was to go into the cave and drive the Goats out, while the Lion would stand at the entrance to strike them down. The hungry but unsuspecting Fox, went around the tree as he was told, and in a twinkling the Dog had seized him.

The unjust will not listen to the reasoning of the innocent.
