Fable #152

previous | next

A Farmer was driving his wagon along a miry country road after a heavy rain. But though the little one continued to fret, the Wolf waited all day in vain. Why certainly began the Tortoise. He was not getting rich fast enough. Look, said one, a great ship rides in from distant lands, bearing rich treasures! The sun was sinking. The Eagle accepted the Kite immediately. If he had stopped to think he would have known better. But this only brought out the whole swarm. This had the effect the Farmer wanted, for from that day the Cranes visited his field no more.
