Fable #136

previous | next

A stray Lamb stood drinking early one morning on the bank of a woodland stream. Solid food!, said the Sheep. said the old Frog, puffing herself up. Can it be a crime to eat sheep, such stupid mutton heads? And, as usually happens when comrades argue, the talk began to get personal. Every day the Dog would run to meet the Master, frisking playfully about and leaping up to lick his hands and face. He was very much astonished at the strange sight and cried: This must surely be the King of Tortoises! So a large number of generals and commanders were appointed from among the most eminent Mice. But he wants my bacon! gree-ee-ee!

Common sense is always worth more than cunning.
