Fable #87

previous | next

A man who lived a long time ago believed that he could read the future in the stars. What a charming creature she is! said the Fox. How her feathers shine! What a beautiful form and what splendid wings! The Wolf! exclaimed the Sheep indignantly. He then very carefully divided the Stag into four equal parts. I am so strong I can carry away an Ostrich in my talons as if it were a feather! An old Frog living in the marsh, trembled as he watched the fierce battle. The Eagle could not reach the Serpent, neither with beak nor claws. The Fisherman was about to put it in his basket when the little Fish said: Please spare me, Mr. Fisherman! And when the farmer put his shoulder to the wheel and urged on the horses, the wagon moved very readily, and soon the Farmer was riding along in great content and with a good lesson learned.

Precious things are without value to those who cannot prize them.
